Sarlat, or Sarlat-la-Caneda to give it its full name, is situated 100km east of Loubes Bernac.
It features the highest concentration of medieval, renaissance and 17th century buildings in France and has a charm and character that you will find hard to resist. The town is littered with narrow lanes and archways which are overlooked by ocher coloured stone town houses rich in ornamental detail. Such is the beauty and importance of the town's architecture, in 1962 the town was protected by law and now forms an open air museum.
On the way to Sarlat you may come across the "grottos" carved into the rock of the hillside. In the same area you'll find prehistoric caves with cave paintings.
